What is Dental Magnification & Illumination?

At Cornerstone Dental Group - Dr Rex Hawthorne and Associates, we regularly use magnification and auxiliary LED illumination during oral examinations and treatments. From routine examinations to more complicated procedures, the use of these tools allows us to raise the bar for dental care and do a better job.

There are two different types of magnification used in the care and treatment of our patients, loupes (glasses) and an operating microscope.

Loupes (Glasses)

The loupes (magnifying glasses) at Cornerstone Dental Group - Dr Rex Hawthorne and Associates range in strength from 2.5 to 4 times magnification and are used by our team across all areas of dentistry.

In conjunction with loupes or safety glasses, our dentists and hygienists also use small LED lights to enhance their ability to spot and treat oral health issues early.

Operating Microscope

Dental operating microscopes magnify the teeth and oral tissues from anywhere 2-20 times. When combined with tremendous illumination this technology allows your dentist to perform with far greater precision and diagnose issues while still in the early stages.

At Cornerstone Dental Group - Dr Rex Hawthorne and Associates this technology is routinely used for endodontic therapy (root canals), crown and bridge procedures, as well as other procedures where improved visibility is helpful.

Our microscope is also connected to a camera and TV, allowing photographs to be taken and displayed in real-time for patient education or for those who wish to watch their procedures.
